HMOs (House of Multiple
Occupation)

House of multiple occupation is a property occupied by three or more people, forming more than one household. These household members are not of the same family yet reside together, sharing facilities, including the kitchen and bathroom with other tenants.

Adhering to the Legal Requirements

HMO landlords must have a valid licence from the Local Council Housing Department, ensuring a well-managed property that complies with the latest safety stands. Most of the additional regulations are mainly related to fire safety aspects. The licence holds a three-year validity and must be renewed nearing expiry. Furthermore, all housing properties, including HMOs are subjected to The Housing Act 2004.
